Rebecca McCormick Obituary

Rebecca A. McCormick, 68, passed away, Saturday, October 2, 2021, in the comfort of her own home.

Rebecca was born in Auburn, Kentucky, November 2, 1952. Shortly after her birth, Rebecca’s mother became ill and passed away. Rebecca was adopted by her cousin, Benjamin and Marze (Blanchard) McCormick, who raised her in CA with their two children, Ben and Judy.

Rebecca spent a lot of time on the beach in her youth, occasionally surfing and a lot of listening to the Beach Boys. In her early twenties, Rebecca was married and the couple spent their early years of marriage traveling through England, before moving back to New York to raise their family. After her unfortunate divorce, Rebecca worked hard to provide for her children and create a loving home. She later moved to Utica to be close to her daughter, Carrie and her grandchildren. Having ten grandchildren, she always had an open door policy and loved to bake and decorate to bring joy to others. She joined and worked with a local Christian woman’s shelter, where she helped many. She was generous and would happily give to anyone who asked or those she felt needed help. She was a genuinely loving woman to many who encountered her and was a committed Christian throughout her life. An optimist, Rebecca never seemed to be down for long, despite having some significant trials throughout her life. Rebecca loved the beach and planned to move to Florida near her son, Scott, before her untimely passing. She will be missed by her family and the many people who enjoyed her warm hospitality and generous spirit.

She is survived by her daughter, Carrie Banks; son, Scott and Eunice Bussom; grandchildren, Syieed Banks, SurayiaBanks, Savannah Banks, Sakari Banks, Sierra and Michael O’Dell, Wesley Bussom, Gwen Bussom, Aubrey Bussom, Noelle Bussom, and Madelyn Bussom; and sister, Judy Ryal. Rebecca was predeceased by her parents; and brother, Benjamin McCormick Jr.

Rebecca’s visitation will be on Friday from 10-12 p.m., at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica. There will be a prayer service at the end of visitation.
