Peggy G. Lilley Obituary

Peggy Gilpin Lilley, 88, of Lexington, SC, passed quietly away on October 1, 2021. She was born in April, 1933, in Newport News, VA, and was raised in Portsmouth, VA. She attended Woodrow Wilson High School and was a graduate of Hampton Roads Business College. Peggy was married to her late husband, Robert E. Lilley, for 58 years, and they resided in Newport News for most of their lives.

Peggy enjoyed a distinguished and successful professional career. As a pioneer for Virginia women in the property management industry she was recognized for numerous firsts and was awarded many honors in her professional field.

Additionally, Peggy was known for many civic involvements in her community, including Cub Scout pack leader, PTA President, and the Hilton Women’s Club, to mention a few.

Having been born and raised on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay, Peggy and her husband relished their travels throughout the United States, and many live-aboard boat trips to various Florida destinations, including the Keys, in their power boat.

Peggy Lilley is survived by her two children, R. Dexter Lilley (Sharon) of Newport News, and Nadine Lilley Mitchell (Jim) of Batesburg-Leesville, SC; seven brothers and sisters — Rex Gilpin (Rose) of Virginia Beach, VA, Nancy Rorrer (Dave) of Milan, MI, Don Gilpin of Trinity FL, Sally Stefurak of Portsmouth, Harry Gilpin of Orange Lake, FL, Gail Stevens of Salisbury, MD, and Margaret Whedbee of Suffolk, VA; a brother-in-law, Perry Lilley of Portsmouth; a sister-in-law, Frances Bridgers of Tampa, FL; three grandchildren, Rob Mitchell (Sarah Gall), Kristen (Shane) Suffridge, and Jessica (Dan) Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Madison, McKenzie and Davis.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her many caregivers over the past few years at Wellmore of Lexington, and to the caring staff of All Seasons Hospice.

Arrangements are being made by Barr-Price Funeral Home of Batesburg-Leesville. A visitation for friends of the family will be held between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. on Monday, October 4, 2021 at the funeral home on Main Street in Batesburg-Leesville.
