Elizabeth Ann Callahan Obituary

Elizabeth (Betsy) Callahan, born October 16, 1930, passed away peacefully September 20, 2021 less than one month short of her 91st birthday. Betsy, a long-time resident of Eugene, Oregon and enthusiastic Ducks fan, spent her last months in Folsom, California, surrounded by loving family.

In her younger years, Betsy was a special education teacher with a big heart for children. Betsy played the clarinet and had a life-long love of music. She sang and taught others to sing throughout her life. Betsy also loved birds and flowers.

Betsy is preceded in death by her beloved husband John Callahan who called her “the best thing that ever happened to me.” Betsy and John were called “bright lights” in their Eugene community by their Methodist pastor.

Betsy is survived by her brother Jack (Dorothy) Wooddell, two sons by birth David (Maggie) Stewart, and James Stewart, five children by marriage Susan (David) Ojeda, John (Felipa) Callahan, James (Mary) Callahan, Patty (Duane) Weins and Steve Callahan, and many adoring grandchildren and great-children by marriage. Betsy is also remembered by many close friends from St Peter’s Catholic Church and Wesley United Methodist Church in Eugene.

Services will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church in Eugene, Oregon on October 16, 2021 at 11:00 AM.
