Suzanne LoRene Hofhine (Lavin) “Sue,” 68, passed from this life into the arms of her Heavenly Father, surrounded by her family on September 20, 2021 after a heroic battle of cancer. She was born March 19, 1953, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Kenneth and Beverly Lavin, whom she absolutely adored. She grew up in Millcreek with her older brother Robert, younger brother Randy and sister Lisa. Growing up, Sue attended Granite High School and started working as soon as she was old enough. From then on, she always held multiple jobs which helped her enjoy the finer things in life, which she loved! A few of these including a motorcycle, snowmobile and a Monte Carlo (which was always spotless). She also found great joy in sharing her things with others and giving gifts at every opportunity. During her teenage years colored televisions had just come out and Sue saved up to give her parents the most lavish one she could afford. This is a small example of how Sue continued to live the remainder of her life - giving gifts and doing acts of service to show her love and affection for others. She was always painting someone’s house or working in their yard, serving them in any way possible and showering them with gifts. Tom and Sue met at the Harmon’s courtesy booth in Fort Union. Tom was smitten right away and from then on never cashed his check anywhere else. They were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on October 5, 1977. Shortly after they were joined by their daughter and two sons; Shari, Shane and Cody. After building a home in Sandy together, selling and moving a couple times, roots were planted on Walden Hills Drive for 27 years. In 2006 they built one final time and moved to their current home in Riverton. Sue always loved filling their home with her family’s love and laughter. Alongside building homes together, Sue and Tom started Raintree Builders, their construction company, and built it from the ground up. They worked hand in hand together along with their three children in tow. Sue was a meticulous bookkeeper and ran everything that took place behind the scenes for their business. She was the glue that held it all together. In adulthood, Sue came across softball and instantly fell in love with the game. She was a natural athlete and outstanding player. She led her teams to several wins and has a basement full of trophies to show for it. Sue’s greatest joy and accomplishment in her life was her family whom she loved more than anything on earth and didn’t want to leave behind. She filled her days with her number one priority, her grandkids. She was their biggest cheerleader and attended all of their games and events with mints, drinks and blankets to share. She always knew what her family was up to and made her best effort to be involved every way she could. Next to her family, Sue loved nothing more than a beautiful, well manicured yard; something her parents instilled in her at a young age. She could always be found outside in her yard, watching a sports game, spending time with her family or at Chick-Fil-A. She enjoyed holidays with Christmas being her ultimate favorite to count down to. She loved going on trips with her family and Sunday dinners. Sue has been a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and loved like He did. She had a heart of gold. She served in several callings including an inner city mission at the Conference Center for 2 years. But of all her callings, primary teacher was her favorite and she served there for many years. Sue is survived by Thomas Hofhine, her husband of 44 years, her children, Shari (Clint), Shane (Emily), and Cody (Wendy). She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Lisa, her in-laws Ted and Marjorie Hofhine, and triplet nieces Brittany, Karen, and Rebecca Lavin. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren (Tanner, Troy, Carter, Brooks, Benson, Bentley, Blakley, Kenli, Ally, Hayden, Nora, and Harper) who love her dearly. We will all miss her! Funeral services in celebration of her life will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 24, 2021 at the Western Springs Stake Center, 12681 South 3600 West Riverton, Utah. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 23, 2021, from 6:00 to 8:00 in the evening at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 South Jordan Parkway (10600 South), South Jordan, UT, and at the stake center one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Riverton City Cemetery, 1500 West 13400 South.
