Joseph Marvin Rickels Obituary

Joseph Marvin Rickels Jr., 66, of Taylorsville, GA, passed away on September 18, 2021, at Piedmont Cartersville Hospital in Cartersville, GA. Born on July 22, 1955, in Yazoo City, MS he was the son of Betty Hood Rickels and the late Joseph Marvin Rickels Sr. He is also preceded in death by his grandparents, Marvin and Mathilde Rickels and William and Anna Hood. In addition to his mother, Betty Hood Rickels; survivors include his wife, Beverly Joan Rickels; his children and their spouses, Courtney Lynn Rimmer and Charles “Wayne” Rimmer, Rebecca Amelia Rogers and Zachary Rogers, Anna Elizabeth Townes and Troy Townes, and Joseph Marvin Rickels III and Kelly Rickels; his siblings Michael Wayne Rickels and Pam Rickels and William Francis “Pete” Rickels and Becky Rickels; his grandchildren Peyton, Owen, Bryson, Adelynn, Penelope, Stella, Everid, and Calvin; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joe was a teacher and giver of wisdom. He was a man who would not only teach you to fish, he would help you cook up and serve the best fish you’ve ever tasted. He was the one you called when you had a question, about anything. Whether that be installing electrical or smoking the perfect meats. If he met you once, you were a friend, and he’d go out of his way to help you without any hesitation. He didn’t know a stranger. Even if he was in a different state far from home, it was common for him to run into people he knew. He provided for his family his entire life. Continuing when his own kids were grown and the grand babies came. He provided wisdom, advice, support, and unconditional love. Joe loved fishing with his grandsons just as much as tea parties with his granddaughters. Joe loved and adored Beverly, they were best friends. All of their kids will tell you that their marriage was the perfect example of what a marriage should be. He loved his family fiercely and unconditionally. Joe was so proud to follow in his father's footsteps in the Knights of Columbus. He was one of the founding members of the St. Steven the Martyr chapter and served as the Deputy Grand Knight. He is a 4th degree former Faithful Navigator as well as 3rd degree former Grand Knight and felt that God led him in this direction as his patriotic duty. He loved working at Lennox Heatcraft and passed 40 years of knowledge to the next generation when he retired in December 2020. Visitation will be Friday, October 8th at 11:00 AM at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with a Catholic Mass to follow at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church also on October 8th at 1:00 PM.
