Heaven seems a little brighter today, Martha Jo Cherry Coats age 74 went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, September 14, 2021 after a short illness. Martha was born November 11, 1946 in Atlanta, Texas to Loyce and Nettie Jo Bradley Cherry. She grew up and went to school in Atlanta. She was a meat wrapper by trade and under garment inspector at Henson Kickernick in the 70’s but her greatest accomplishments were being a mother and grandmother. She played piano and taught Sunday school at Thomas Street Baptist Church. She loved sewing, chocolate desserts and going to Walmart. She was her families greatest cheerleader and lead by example and loved the Lord. She never missed a grandkid’s activity, could whip up a costume in no time and always had a birthday cake made especially for you. She loved doing crossword puzzles and you could always find her reading a good book. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Coats; and her grandson, Cody Jackson. She is survived by her children, Diane Jackson and husband Briane Jackson of Atlanta; son, Don Coats, Jr. and wife Susan of Atlanta; brothers, Robert Earl Cherry and wife Valerie of Hughes Springs, Texas, Walter Dean Cherry, Brian Keith Cherry and wife Lorraine both of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Nolan Jackson and wife Rachel of Royse City, Texas, Amanda Jackson Britt and husband Evan of Dallas, Texas, Steven Coats, Bradley Jackson, Breanne Jackson Brown and husband Zach Brown all of Atlanta, Texas; eight great-grandchildren, Katelynn Farmer, Allie Jackson, Gary Coats, Kathryn Coats, Addison Jackson, Olivia Jackson, Brody Jackson, and Emersyn Jo Brown, named after her Nana. She may be gone but she left a little sunshine behind. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, September 19, 2021 in the Hanner Funeral Chapel with Bro. Gene Parker and Bro. Dee Cruson officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hanner Funeral Service. Interment will be in Smyrna Cemetery.
