Amanda Acosta Obituary

Amanda Pizzo Acosta, 45, passed on September 14, 2021 after a courageous and long three week fight with COVID-19. Amanda was a great person, wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend.

She was born in Parsons, Kansas on October 27, 1975 to Mark and Myra Pizzo. The family moved to Hobbs in 1989. She graduated from Hobbs High School in 1994. This is the same High School where she would spend much of her teaching career.

Amanda married Robert Acosta on March 23, 2001. They have two children Mason Acosta, 19 of Chicago, IL and Daniel Acosta, 17 of the home.

Amanda worked for the City of Hobbs Parks and Rec Department for 25 years as a seasonal worker. She started as a lifeguard at age 15. This was the first time she worked with Special Needs students teaching them how to swim. This led to her 20 year teaching career in the Special Education department of Hobbs Schools. Amanda and Robert, also, operate Acosta’s Aquariums.

Amanda will be missed by those left behind including:  husband Robert; children Mason and Daniel; parents Mark and Myra Pizzo; sister Meredith and Tommy Snook; and In-Laws Joe and Geneva Acosta, all of Hobbs, NM. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Amanda had many special friends including Diane Ditterich and Cindy Juardo.

She was preceded in death by:  grandparents Charles and Margot Pizzo and Bill and Phyllis Hook.

Amanda’s legacy will be carried on by the many children she taught and parents who received hope, knowledge, and confidence to navigate the special education system. Amanda’s humor and fun loving spirit will live on in our many memories of her.
