Douglas Edward Parvin
<p>Douglas Edward Parvin passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 12, 2021, after a long battle of Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer.</p> <p>His memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, September 17th, at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Patrick Whaley. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website.</p> <p>Doug was born in Washington County, Plymouth, NC. Being the son of a Methodist minister, his family lived in Institute, Norlina, Tarboro, Weldon, Mt. Olive and Jacksonville, NC. </p> <p>He graduated from Southern Wayne High in Mt. Olive, NC. He also attended Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville, NC.</p> <p>In 1977, he was approached about becoming a deputy at the Onslow County Sheriff’s Department, where he served as a deputy until 1978. He entered North Carolina State Highway Patrol School. Upon graduating, his first duty station was Edgecombe County. He served as a Master Trooper there from 1978-1994. It was in Tarboro where he met and married his wife, Belinda. Then, the beach was calling his name. He requested a transfer to Carteret County, where he remained until the end of his patrol career in 2006. </p> <p>Some of he and Belinda’s hobbies together included camping with his in-laws, boating, motorcycling, and spending time on their pier relaxing. Doug and his daughter Sarah, enjoyed fishing, cruising the Caribbean, cheering on the Carolina Panthers and because of her, he conquered his fears of roller coasters. His son Brandon spent many hours by his side helping build the family pier and enjoying boat rides and fishing.</p> <p>He returned to work part time for eight additional years as a Court Security Officer in the US Federal Courthouse in New Bern, NC with the US Martial Service.</p> <p>He loved any water activity including snorkeling at Shackleford Banks, where he found numerous conch shells. He also enjoyed fishing with one of his closest friends, Jeffrey Collins. He was a man of many talents. He built several piers, worked on cars and was a fixer of all things. He especially enjoyed riding his Harley on trips with Steve Wolack, Toby Coombs and Jeff Mclawhorn.</p> <p>He is survived by his wife, Belinda Barnes Parvin of 27 years; son, Brandon Douglas Parvin of Jacksonville, NC; daughter, Sarah Ashton Parvin of Newport, NC; sister, Linda Parvin Howard and husband Danny Carroll Howard of Washington, NC; and brother James DeWayne Parvin of Mt. Olive, NC. Also surviving are his nieces, Natalie Parvin Griffith of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Natalie’s daughters, Caroline and Laura Catherine; Ashley Parvin Daniels and husband Donnie Daniels of Winterville, NC, and their children, Sara Beth, Martin, Charlotte, and Sebastian; Bridget Gail Parvin of Mt. Olive, NC, and her sons, Luke and Noah; Dera Courtney Howard of Washington, NC.; along with his nephew, Danny Carroll Howard, II of Kinston, NC.</p> <p>He was preceded in death by his parents, James Burbank Parvin and Velma Edwards Parvin; and his beloved sister-in-law, Margaret Ann Parvin.</p> <p>In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to UNC Health Foundation, UNC-Chapel Hill, P.O.
