Melvin Oliver James Sr Obituary

MELVIN OLIVER JAMES SR. was born on November 10, 1943, to the late David L. and Wilma Imes James in Kentwood Louisiana.  He was the 5th of 8 children.  Mr. Melvin as he was affectionately known was proceeded in death by his parents; siblings, Carrie, Norma, Leonard and Willie James, grandson; Durell Brown and Godson Richard Cutno.  He leaves behind his beloved siblings; David L. James, Mary L. James and Eular Mae Hughes, his children; Melvin O. James Jr., Michelle D. James, Jennifer L. James (Adam) and Joshua L. James, 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many other relatives and community friends and colleagues. 


Mr. Melvin lived a life filled with dedication and pride.  He served the Big Easy as a Taxicab driver for over 40 years.  His sight started to deteriorate and forced him to retire as a cab driver and he then began working as a dish washer for a host of hotels in the area.  He was a simple but caring and loving man and will truly be missed but never forgotten.


Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service on Friday, September 17, 2021, at Robinson Family Funeral Home located at 9611 LA-23, Belle Chasse LA. 70037 at 12:30 P.M.  Pastor Frank Davis III officiating.  Interment will be private.  A traditional jazz celebration will immediately follow the service.


Due to COVID-19, everyone in attendance must wear a facemask or other proper facial covering a practice social distancing.
