Richard Bolling Dew Obituary

Richard B. Dew, 77, passed away on August 28, 2021. It is with tremendous heartache that his family announces his sudden death due to surgical complications. Rick was best known here in Santa Fe, as the Olympic Archery Coach at St. John’s College. It was a position he was very proud of that brought him great joy. “Best job of my life” he would say. His many accomplishments include being a custom homebuilder in Santa Fe, a master carpenter for many years in San Diego and Denver, a mentor, a teacher, an artist, & a recipient of Senior Olympics Archery Awards First Place multiple times. He served in Vietnam and obtained a Purple Heart Medal after suffering a gunshot wound to his jaw and exposed to Agent Orange, which caused many of his physical disabilities over time. He was born and raised on a cattle ranch in Wyoming, but attended several boarding schools. He was a fascinating combination of cowboy, poet, scholar, philosopher, risk-taker, with a dry wit and elegant style. Tall, strong and handsome his wife of 40 years, Marcia, loved him madly. “Marcia & Rick’s Adventures” were legendary and amazed many. Always humble, complex and complicated, a brilliant, sensitive and beautiful man he was. Thankfully, he has finally found peace and has flown away. Those who knew him will always miss him. Survivors include his wife, Marcia Dew and beloved sister, Peyton Auerbach (Dr. James Auerbach). No services as per request. Donations may be made to Santa Fe Humane Society in his name.
