Eugene Leroy Jackson

Eugene Leroy Jackson was called home to join his loving wife of 74 years, Mavine on September 3, 2021. Gene was born July 21,1927 in Vian, Oklahoma to John and Francis Jackson. He was raised on nightly bible study around the kitchen table of a one room shack with no running water, electricity and dirt floors. Their bible was so delicate, it was pasted together with baking soda and water. The family relocated to Califomia when he was 10 years old. When he was in Junior High, he played Basketball for a High School because he was so talented. He was offered scholarships to college but he enlisted in the Navy during World War II. He returned from the war and met and married Mavine Jackson. They had a son, Larry and daughter, Pamela. Gene worked for Lockheed and helped build the X-7A missile. He also worked as a General Manager for Thriftymart grocery store spanning 20 plus years, followed by becoming a District Manager for MJB Coffee for many years. Upon retiring, Circle K offered him employment as District Manager and Assets Protection Manager for 6 years. Gene was active in his church, First Southem Baptist Church, (now Columbus Street Baptist Church) when it first started out in a garage on River Blvd. He started teaching Sunday School at age 22.Hebecame the Deacon Chairman and enjoyed preaching to the deaf congregation and never met a stranger. He resigned teaching the Sunday School Senior Coed class at the age of 90. Gene and Mavine spent theii retirement traveling around the world. They visited the holy land, had the last supper at the Garden of Gethsemane, walked in the Dead Sea, and visited the Pyramids. Gene is survived by his daughter Pamela Helm-Murphy, husband Danny, grandchildren Jason and Thnya Gonzales, Eric Jacks-on, Kimberly Micheson, Stacey Goins, Bryan Jackson and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchild. Visitation will be September 20n from 4:00-8:00 pm with services on September 2li at Greenlawn Memorial Park 3700 River Blvd in the chapel. As the sunrises with the birth of a new day we celebrate your healing from this sick body. As the midday sun rises above, marking the past is gone but never forgotten.
