Rita F. Morency Obituary

Rita F. (Lacasse) Morency, age 90, of Auburn, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, after a long & brave battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Lewiston on August 11, 1931, the ninth of thirteen children of Arthur and Elna (Paradis) Lacasse. She attended Catholic Schools and Lewiston High School. She was married on Oct. 4th, 1952, to Lionel P. Morency of Auburn. Rita was a shy & beautiful child. She spoke highly of her kind Godmother who bought her an outfit and had her photograph taken as a child. At age 16, she had to go to work to help support the large family. She worked in local shoe shops until her marriage, then moved to Seneca Falls, NY where Lionel was stationed in the Air Force for a few years. They returned to Lewiston and Auburn where they raised six children with love, faith and hard work. Rita worked hard to keep the house clean, cook delicious meals, and sew clothing for her family. After her children were all in school, she worked various jobs outside the home, culminating with her position as Cook/Housekeeper at St. Philips Church Rectory in Auburn until her retirement. She always welcomed visits from her children and their families joyfully with open arms. She loved to hold the young ones on her lap and shower them with attention. She hosted many gatherings and always prepared a grand feast for her guests. Her sparkling eyes and beautiful smile would light up the room. Rita was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lionel, who passed away on Oct. 6th, 2018, after 66 years of a faith-filled and loving marriage. Rita is survived by her six children, Diane Caron and husband Paul of Auburn, Claire Davis and husband Ron of Lewiston, Lucie Beauchesne and husband Don of Taunton, MA, Paul Morency of Orlando, FL, Elaine St. Pierre and husband Scott of Lewiston, and Denise Chapman and husband Daniel of Freeport; ten cherished grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Rev. Robert Lacasse of Tewksbury, MA, and a sister, Lorraine Farpelha of AZ. The Morency Family would like to extend our gratitude to the Staff at Odd Fellows’ Home in Auburn for their attentiveness and loving care. Rita loved carnations and was a woman of Faith and Prayer, especially to Our Blessed Mother for her family. In her memory, all are invited to wear or bring a carnation on the day of her funeral, and to pray the Rosary for her. May she rest in Peace. + A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 20th, at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Church of Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rita’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601. Click here to view the fund page for Rita F. Morency.
