<p>John R. &ldquo;Jack&rdquo; Houston, 94, of New Carlisle, Indiana passed away at 6:35 a.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2021 in the Raclin House, Mishawaka, Indiana.&nbsp; Jack was born on October 18, 1926 in South Bend, Indiana to Earl D. and Elizabeth (Gantert) Houston.&nbsp; He had been employed with Rheem Manufacturing from 1950&ndash;1981 and was the Owner of Houston Pro Hardware in New Carlisle from 1981 &ndash; 2013.&nbsp; On July 7, 1951 he married Hazel Marie Shiffer, who preceded him in death on April 7, 2020.&nbsp; He was also preceded in death by his sister, Betty Ann Spillman; and two brothers, Earl F. Houston and Joseph Houston.&nbsp; Jack is survived by his five sons, John (Mary) Houston of Villa Park, Illinois, James (Connie) Houston of Hudson, Wisconsin, Jeff (Christine) Houston of Plymouth, Indiana, Jerry (Becky) Houston of Port Richey, Florida and Joel (Donna) Houston of South Bend, Indiana; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and his brother-in-law, Jack Spillman of South Bend, Indiana.&nbsp; A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Burial with&nbsp;Military Honors will follow in St. John Kanty Cemetery.&nbsp; A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert Street, New Carlisle, Indiana, where a rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m.&nbsp; Jack was a WW II Army Veteran.&nbsp; He was a 1950 graduate of Wabash College where he played basketball and was named to the Indiana All Stars.&nbsp; He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish and the American Legion Post #297. He was a former member of the New Carlisle Lions Club.&nbsp; Jack was a loving Husband, Dad, Grandpa, &amp; Great-Grandpa.&nbsp; He loved making the little details in the family celebrations special and personal.&nbsp; Memorial Contributions may be directed to the New Carlisle Food Pantry or the Hospice Foundtion.
