Anthony P. Cardi, 93, husband of the late Marion L. Cardi of Riverside, RI, passed away on April 28, 2020 at Hallworth House in Providence. Anthony, known to friends and family as Tony, was born in Massachusetts. He was the son of Anna Cardi Foglioni and Alphonse Cardi. He was the step-son of Fred Foglioni. Tony was the brother of the late Alphonse Cardi, Jr. and Phyllis Tyrell.

Tony was drafted out of high school into the Army at the age of 18 and served one year. He finished his service in the National Guard Reserves. Tony graduated from Framingham High School where he met Marion, his wife of 67 ½ years.

Tony relocated to Rhode Island in 1960 to work for Raytheon. He retired from Raytheon in 1993 after more than 35 years of service. Tony got bored with retirement and took a part time job working as a courier for Citizens Bank until the age of 77. He enjoyed the opportunity to get out in the community and meet people daily.

One of Tony’s proudest accomplishments was his work in A.A. He celebrated 49 years of sobriety in 2020 and over the years he mentored and encouraged many men as they worked their program.

Tony loved history and enjoyed telling stories to his grandchildren, or anyone who would listen. He appreciated good food and could tell you the best places in Rhode Island to buy baked goods and to find the "best" special or ethnic delicacies. He enjoyed sharing meals with family and friends and opening his home to visitors from around the world. Tony was known for his famous antipasto which he made each Christmas and Thanksgiving. His daughters knew they could bring anyone home for a meal, a holiday or a short vacation.

Tony lived his last years at Hallworth House where he continued to demonstrate a hospitable attitude. He enjoyed learning about the lives of residents and staff who became his friends. He often helped other residents, coaxing them to talk, introducing them to his family when they visited, encouraging them to eat, and even cutting up their food. He loved his family and his friends. Tony never met a stranger.

Tony remained an avid reader and looked forward to reading his daily newspaper to follow local, national and international news. He loved reading about, watching and talking about sports, and was an avid fan of the Red Sox and the Miami Dolphins.

Tony is greatly missed. He is survived by his daughters, Anne, and her husband Keith; Mary; Jeanne, and her husband Ken; Paula and her husband Gerry; Candice and her husband Richard; and Karen and her partner Judy, as well as his grandchildren, David, John, Mark, Elliot, Therese, Phillip, Margaret, Daniel, Ellen, Gabriel, Angela, Aaron, and Jessica-Lyn, and his great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Sophia and Krishnan.

Due to current health concerns, the family plans to hold a funeral in the future to memorialize Tony. They will announce the date and time to family and friends at that time.
