Katharine Gatenby FRANKLIN , TN Mary Katharine "Kate" Sherer Gatenby, 95, of Franklin , formerly of Reading , PA , passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 20, 2011 at Woodlawn Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Sharon , SC with the Rev. Barry Lambert officiating. Kate was the daughter of John and Minnie Rodgers Sherer, and was the widow of John Gatenby. Kate was a witty, smart, generous, kind and loving person who was loved by all who knew her. In earlier years, it was Kate's practice to hand copy a chapter of Scripture each day and she left behind many notebooks filled with the entire New Testament. It is the hope that is captured in those notebooks that she lives fully now in eternity. She is survived by nieces Billie Hunt and husband Tom of Franklin, TN, Peggy McSwain of York , SC , Ann Warner and husband Don of Littleton, CO, nephew Bob Sherer of Annapoils , MD , cousin Alyce Burtis of Corrales , NM , a great niece, and namesake, Mary Katharine Hunt, of Nashville , TN , and many other great nieces and nephews. Kate was preceded in death by her brothers William Bill Rodgers Sherer and wife Etta, and Truman Dawson Sherer and wife Peggy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
