Obituary
Robert B. "Bob" Loomis, 99, a resident of the Wilsonville community, died Monday morning, September 13, 2021 at the SpringRidge Court Assisted Living Facility. ROBERT BRUCE LOOMIS was born November 7, 1921 in Forest Grove, Oregon, the son of the late Robert Emit Loomis and Josephine Ruth (Frost) Loomis. He was raised and received his education in Portland. As a teen, he often rode his bicycle from Portland to Forest Grove and Watts (near Gales Creek) to visit his grandparents. Bob enlisted in the Oregon Army National Guard in Forest Grove and was sent to the Philippines, Blak, New Guinea and Papua with the 41st Infantry Division during World War II, ending with an assignment in Hiroshima. He was awarded several medals including two bronze stars and a Purple Heart for his service. He completed Officer Candidate School while in Melbourne, Australia. After the war, he continued serving in the Oregon Army National Guard retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel. After graduation from Oregon State University in 1948 with a degree in agriculture, he worked for Burlingham Seed Company in several Willamette Valley cities before settling in Forest Grove where he lived and raised his family for almost 50 years. Bob and his wife, Jean enjoyed playing golf and visiting Palm Desert every February. Bob played golf daily until he was 95 with several other “duffers” from the Charboneau community. Bob also enjoyed woodworking and made several furniture places for the family over the years. Bob imparted his love of golf to his son, Bob and of horses to daughter, Sue and general wisdom and support for all 3 children. Bob is survived by his two daughters and a son-in-law, Lucy Angelechio, of Sherwood, Oregon and Sue and Richard Wilson, of Hillsboro, Oregon and his daughter-in-law, Joyce Loomis, of Grants Pass, Oregon. Also surviving are his seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jean, and his son, Bob.
