<p>Julie Mae Dowell, 64, of Mattoon, IL. passed away at 10:21 pm on September 11, 2021, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN.</p> <p>Private family services will be held at a later date. &nbsp;The Barkley Funeral Chapel will be assisting the family with the arrangements.</p> <p>Julie was born on October 4, 1956, in Mattoon, IL to Howard Max and Violet (Schoby) Stites. Survivors include Mother Violet Whitaker; son Matthew D. Woolever; granddaughter Alissa Bell; sister Shelley (Greg) Carlen; stepbrother Larry Whitaker; step sister Brenda Wilson; nieces and nephews Melissa Lodes, Chad Stites, Angela Stites, Marshall Carlen, and Levi Carlen; also surviving are several great nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her father Howard Max Stites and stepfather Keith Whitaker; brother Dennis Stites; stepbrother Jack Whitaker; and stepsister Sandra Kinnaman.</p> <p>Julie worked for Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center for 38 years. She was known for her famous sugar cookies and being a remarkable seamstress. In her spare time, Julie loved to sit on her porch swing, doing puzzles, loved her cats but most of all, loved her family. She was a member of the Broadway Christian Church in Mattoon, IL. Julie attended Good Prospect Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Trilla, IL.</p> <p>Memorials can be made to Good Prospect Church.</p> <p>Online condolences can be expressed at www.barkleyfuneralchapels.com &nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
