Charles (Chuck) Leroy Schick passed away on September 8th, 2021 surrounded by love from his family. Although his love for his family here gave him the desire to fight the battle he faced at the end, his faith in our Heavenly Father ultimately gave him the comfort he needed to move onto his next journey. Chuck was born on September 4th, 1938 in Roseburg, Oregon to Ernest and Addie Schick. He was their only child. He went through grade school, junior high, and high school there. Graduating from Roseburg High School in 1956. Chuck joined the National Guard when he was 14 years old. As a member of the 64 Infantry, he had the chance to go to flight school and parachute out of planes. While at a dance, he met the love of his life, his wife of 61 years, Beverly McIntire. They were married on November 25th, 1959. Their love for one another is truly inspiring. Together, they had five children. Ronda Szlavich (Les) of Cambridge, Minnesota, Renae, Carla Whitaker (Dave) of Taylor, UT, Caren Heinze (Alan) of Pasco, WA, and David of Pasco, WA. Dad couldn’t have been more proud of the people his children became. Staying in touch with his children as they grew was always a top priority in his life. In 1974 his family was introduced to the LDS missionaries. They were eventually baptized and then sealed for time and all eternity in the Portland, OR temple in 1993. This opportunity eventually led Chuck to find one of his biggest hobbies in life, family history work. He spent countless hours at the computer “connecting the dots” and learning about his ancestors. There is no doubt that these ancestors greeted him with open arms and appreciation for all he’s done. He also held various other callings over his years in the church and was always willing to help however he could. Chuck began working at Lamb Weston in 1979. For over 30 years he made lasting friendships there that he treasured deeply. After retiring, he found new friends in his cats that he loved dearly….Kiki and MissT. His grandkids like to think that the best years of his life started when he earned the title of “Grandpa!” He could often be found cheering them on at baseball games, letting them draw with markers on his back, playing card games around the table, and recalling funny jokes. But most of all, he was best at listening as they shared stories about life and always made each of them feel like they were his favorite. Grandpa had the ability to make everyone feel special. He had 16 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. However, he has many more who he unofficially adopted into the family and who were so special to him. To know Grandpa was to love him. Charles is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, mother and father in-law, one grandchild, two great-grandchildren, and his beautiful daughter, Renae. We can only imagine their incredible reunion. One fun thing about Chuck is that he enjoyed being able to see where his family members were by looking at the location of those he tracked on his phone. He would send random messages that would say funny things like “stay right” or ask what they were doing at a specific place. As we say goodbye to our beloved husband, father, grandpa, and friend, we know that if we listen closely, he will continue to be there with similar messages of hope, love, and direction throughout our lives. May we all be aware enough to hear him in this new way until we meet again! A viewing will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021, from 5:00-8:00 pm at Hillcrest Funerals and Cremation, 9353 W. Clearwater Ave., Kennewick, WA with funeral services on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 10:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2004 N. 24th Ave., Pasco, WA, followed by Graveside service at Columbia River Cemetery, Pasco, WA.
