Deborah 'Debbie' Slye

Deborah ‘Debbie’ Burns Slye, 68, of Due West, wife of Norman L. Slye, Jr., died Monday, September 13, 2021, at the Hospice House in Greenwood. She was born in Fort Campbell, KY to the late James and Katherine Ellis Burns. Reared in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Debbie attended Bradley High School. She had a heart for service and was employed as a CNA at the Hospice House for six years. A multi-faceted crafter, Debbie enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cross-stitching and her specialty, making ‘bashful dolls’. A marvelous cook, Debbie’s kitchen was a favorite place in her home. A member of the Abbeville First Baptist Church and the Koinonia Sunday School class, she was also involved with the children’s programs at the church. In addition to her parents, Debbie was preceded in death by three brothers, Jimmy Burns, Michael Burns and Wayne Ellis; and a sister, Linda Lonas. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Norman; two sons, Daniel Wayne Slye (Melissa Hite) of Hodges and Timothy Michael Slye of Due West; brother, Ricky Burns of Kenosha, WI; sister, Cheryl Pierce (David) of Maine; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn Slye, Jacob Slye, Isaiah Slye, Kayen Rapley, Jaylyn Slye and Josephine Slye. The family will receive friends 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 21, 2021 in Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Daniel Royster officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00PM in M.J. ‘Dolly’ Cooper Veterans Cemetery, 140 Inway Drive, Anderson, SC 29621. Memorial contributions, in memory of Debbie, may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646. The family is at the home of Daniel and Melissa, 1860 Hwy. 185, Hodges, SC 29654. A message of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting www.harrisfuneral.com.
