<p>LaVerne Wilhelmenia Nelson, 88, of Green Bay, left her earthly home and family on Saturday, September 11, 2021. She loved the Lord and went to be with her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.</p> <p>LaVerne was born to the late John and Lydia (Ziegerer) Hanneken in Robertsville, MO on January 22, 1933 on a 100-acre farm and the youngest of a family of four children, two sisters and one brother.</p> <p>She was married to the late Eugene R. Nelson, First Officer with the Reiss Coal Co., who retired in 1980 at 50 years old after 22 years of service. They were married for 47 years and belonged to the Interfaith Fellowship since 1980, now known as Living Hope Church.</p> <p>She is survived by their two daughters and one son-in-law: Debra J. (Dan) Clark, and Diane M. Nelson; one grandson: James R. (Chrissy) Robarge; and four great-grandchildren: Kylie, Kullen, Jocelyn and Jordan. She is furthered survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; parents: John and Lydia Hanneken; her two sisters and brother: Christine, Elsie, and Norman.</p> <p>She gave most of her time to volunteer work at St. Mary&rsquo;s Hospital, the Salvation Army, Bethesda and her church for over 10 years. Her family was her greatest joy, she loved and cared about people and animals, and had a great sense of humor along the way. Reading, traveling, and flower gardening were her favorite pastimes, especially after her husband retired.</p> <p>A funeral service to celebrate LaVerne&rsquo;s life will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 11AM at Living Hope Church, Green Bay, with Rev. Don Olson and Rev. Mike LeClaire presiding. LaVerne will be laid to rest at Fort Howard Cemetery. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at the Lyndahl Funeral Home, Green Bay from 4-7PM and again on Thursday, at the CHURCH from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM.</p> <p>Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family by visiting www.lyndahl.com</p> <p>The Lyndahl Funeral Home of Green Bay is assisting the family with arrangements.</p>
