Robert Murray, Jr., 82, of Knightdale, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 13, 2021.

Robert was born to the late Alestine and Robert Murray, Sr. on May 16, 1939. He received his high school education from Queen Street High School in Beaufort, North Carolina. At an early age, Robert became a member of Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church in North River, where he received Christ as his personal Savior. He also became a Sunday School teacher at Mount Tabor. After graduating high school, Robert pursued higher education and received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University and a Master’s Degree in Architectural Engineering at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh. 

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at 11:00 am at God's City Of Refuge of Newport. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am. He will be laid to rest in Carteret Memorial Gardens in Beaufort following the service. 

Robert would later put his degrees to use when helping his brother with the architectural design for God’s City of Refuge Church. Robert also spent his career working at major architectural firms in both Pittsburgh and Charlotte.

During his studies at North Carolina A&T, he was a member of ROTC. After finishing his studies, he would also join the Army, where he would achieve the rank of First Lieutenant.

Robert moved with his family to Pittsburgh, where he was a Deacon at Mount Olive Baptist Church, under the leadership of Brannon J. Hopson. Later, Robert would move to Charlotte, where he was an active member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Jones, Sr, where he served faithfully as a deacon. Later, Robert moved to Knightdale, where he became a member of Elevation Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor and Elder Carmichael.

Robert was proceeded in death by his parents, Alestine and Robert Murray, Sr., his beloved son, Anthony LeRoy Murray, and his brothers, Danny Murray, Jimmy Murray, Curley Smith, Jasper Murray, Sr., and Apostle Willie Murray, Sr.

Left to cherish his phenomenal life, Robert leaves his wife, Geraldine Murray; two sons, Ralph Murray, Knightdale and Michael Murray (Rebecca) of Charlotte; one daughter, Cindy Murray, Knightdale; one granddaughter, Makayla Murray, Charlotte; three sisters, Helen Robinson, Newport, Glendie Murray and Carolene Shepard (James), both of Beaufort; three aunts, Lillie Murrell, Gertrude Murray, and Doris McClain; brothers-in-law Dennis Taylor (Dollie) and Horace Don Taylor; sisters-in-laws Virginia Ann Taylor, Debra Mae Hatten (Mark), Francis Jeffries, Barbara Taylor, Vera Murray, and Delphine Haskins; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
