Calvin Scott Maze Obituary

Calvin Scott Maze 48, of Danville, Illinois, passed this life on Thursday, September 8, 2021, at his home.

Scott or Cal-Boo as he affectinately known by family and friends, was born on January 9, 1972, to Morris Maze and Yvette Cunnigham Buford. He attended Danville Public Schools and was a 1990 Danville High School graduate. He attended DeVry University and was eventually employed at Quaker Oats in Danville for 19 years until his health failed. He was also an entrepreneur, owning and operating Cali's Buckets. Scott gave his life to Christ at an early age, being baptized at Greater Shiloh Baptist Church in Danville.

Although Scott loved drawing, music, fashion design, fishing, sports and was an extraordinary dresser, his greatest loves were his family, his community and kids. He dedicated himself to enhancing the lives of the young people in the Danville area through his involvement with the Danville Bears. Totally devoted to them, the players were his "football family" and considered them his "calling". He showed his devotion to them on and off of the field, being interested not only in their playing abilities but their academic progress and the positive building of their character as well. Scott worked to extend their playing exposure beyond Danville, taking the team to Indianapolis and as far as Texas. He was not only a coach, but a mentor and positive role model. Scott was always quick to lend his hand to anyone in the community in anyway he could.

Besides his football family, Scott leaves to cherish his memory his children whom he adored; Shakira (KiKi) Maze of Danville, Branson Dean of Lafayette, IN, Calea Maze of Danville, and TaNasja Atkisson of Alabama, his parents; David & Yvette Buford of Danville, father Morris (Denise) Maze of Michigan, two sisters; Lavon Maze of Raliegh, NC and Damaria (Jarrod) Mitchell of Atlanta, GA, special friends and brothers Berlin Lillard, Glennie Watson III and Travis Parker, as well as a host of aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends.

Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willie and Marian Cunningham, and Velma Maze, aunt Debbie Maze, 2 uncles; Willie Cunningham and Walter (Butch) Maze.

Scott was an beautiful son, an awesome, doting father, a sweet, protective big brother, a loyal friend, who lived life to the fullest and despite failing health, kept it moving to the end. He touched the lives of so many people with his quiet and unassuming manner. He will be greatly missed.
