Davonna F. "Woodie" Gaines, a lifelong resident of New Orleans, LA, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 28 2021 at the age of 49. She was born on June 30, 1972 to Irma C. Gettridge and Glend A. Ford. Beloved wife of Joseph A. Gaines, III. Mother of Jovonna, Joseph and Jahkyren; also, bonus daughter, Roshawn Posey. Sister of Dorcell Chaney, Desmond Jamal and Glend Ford. Also survived by four grandchildren, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. Davonna is preceded in death by her grandparents, Marceline Chaney and Claiborne Scott; sister, Maya M. Winchester and aunt, Joyce Finnie. Relatives and friends, employees of J.W. Marriott, Ochsner Hospital, Lab Corp, RTA and US Postal Service at New Orleans, are invited to attend the homegoing. A Celebration Service honoring the life of the late Davonna F. "Woodie" Gaines will be held in the Chapel of Charbonnet Labat Glapion Funeral Home, 1615 St. Philip Street, New Orleans, LA 70116 on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 10 a.m., Jerry Edwards, officiating. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery, 4000 Norman Mayer Ave., New Orleans, LA 70122. Visitation 9 a.m. in the chapel.
