Bill Brooker Peachtree Corners, Georgia Obituary

Bill Brooker

Bill Brooker, 82, of Peachtree Corners, GA; passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 9, 2021. While Bill left us suddenly, we are extremely grateful he went peacefully in his sleep. Bill was born in Waynesboro, Virginia on January 18, 1939 to Paul William Brooker Sr (deceased) and Alice Kay Brooker (deceased). He grew up with his two siblings: James Dennis Brooker (deceased) and Dana Brooker Mitchell. As a young man Bill discovered his gift for athletics long before he scored the first 1000 points on the Basketball court of Waynesboro High School. He went on to receive 15 out of 16 High School letters in Basketball, Football, Baseball and Track. It is fair to say Bill set a high standard of athletic achievement. This exceptional ability earned him a Basketball Scholarship to University of Delaware. He then moved on to Western Kentucky and ultimately received his BS from what is now VCU. In 1968, Bill and his young family moved to Atlanta, Ga., where he began his prolific career in sales. Because of his magnetic personality and having never met a stranger, he quickly became salesman of the year repeatedly; his leadership, generosity, and larger than life presence was known throughout the industry. This charismatic drive empowered him to become a founding member of several professional organizations. Bill excelled professionally; however, sports were his true passion. While pitching and playing third base for the Beer Mug, he led his teammates to the city softball championship for several years running. He also played for many years with Aunt Charley's and ended up traveling throughout the country with the Senior Softball league. He developed a love of tennis, and it is no surprise he went onto win multiple city championships in both USTA and ALTA. People who knew Bill will remember him for his drop shot and his lethal “top spin lob”. Win or lose, Bill’s sportsmanship was admired among all who knew him. Bill is survived by his wife, Margaret, of 35 years, his 4 children: Karyn Bell, Trip Brooker, Pat Thompson, and Lisa Amorose, as well as his younger sister Dana Mitchell. Bill was a man who cherished his family, and he will be especially missed by his grandchildren: Leah, Julia, Marissa, Emily and Will. Bill Brooker lived a life full of friends, family, love and more laughter than anyone can imagine. We will be celebrating his extraordinary life on Thursday, September 16, 2021. Service to begin at 2pm at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home in Peachtree Corners, Ga. If preferred, make a donation in Bills name to The V Foundation for Cancer Research or Wounded Warriors Project. On-line condolences may be expressed at www.crowellbrothers.com. Arrangements entrusted to Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes & Crematory, 5051 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Peachtree Corners, GA 30092. 770-448-5757.
