Mavis DeWilliams
We are honored to have known a woman of such a pristine caliber. Mavis Williams was the epitome of the word mother. Her existence compares to a collection of roots deep beneath the earth's surface supporting the nourishment and growth of magnificent trees with far reaching branches and vibrantly colored leaves. She was the matriarch of her family, the center of their lives, irreplaceable and our hearts will weep for her laughter until we too return to the arms of our Lord. Mavis L. Williams was born on March 9th 1931 in Panama City, Panama. She was preceded in death by her parents Michael and Agnes Bryan, as well as her husband Daniel Williams. Mavis Williams was one of six children, of which Stanley Bryan, Lesley Bryan and Mable Simpson preceded her in death. She is survived by siblings Michael Bryan and Noel Bryan. Mavis Williams legacy lives on through her seven devoted children and their spouses; Lowell and Odilia David, Gloria and Johnie Junier, Ricardo and Catalina Williams, Daniel and Silvia Williams, Roberto and Esther Williams, Enrique and Veronica Williams, Ernesto and Marlinda Williams. Mavis Williams adored and loved to be surrounded by her 25 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 14 nieces and nephews. Mavis Williams dedicated her life to nurturing her children. She worked diligently to raise her children; family was always her first priority. She was caretaker for her husband for seven years after he was paralyzed until he was called home to the Lord on March 16, 1973. She never remarried and now 41 years later Daniel and Mavis are reunited. She was a volunteer at a nursing home in Panama before immigrating to the United States in the early 80s. Upon arrival in the US, she began studying nursing and became a certified nursing assistant. Mavis Williams was always passionate about caring for people, her career path reflected her true selfless and comforting nature. Her compassion extended to the families of patients that she came in contact with. She touched so many lives that she still received holiday cards from families wanting to stay in touch long after her retirement. We thank God for our sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, niece, aunt and friend. Our love for her is endless. Mavis Williams, our mother lives on. Thank you Lord for the time we had with her. We take great comfort knowing that she is in your glory enjoying the fruits of her hands with you. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Glenarden, 3600 Brightseat Road, Glenarden, MD, at 10AM. Service at 11AM.
