Graveside Services for Mrs. Iris Hobbs Bowden, age 90 of Lineville, will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Campbell Springs Church of Christ Cemetery with Roy Johnson and Steve Powell officiating. Mrs. Bowden passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at her home. She was born in Brunswick, GA, but had spent the majority of her life in Clay County. After graduating from Lineville High School, she married her husband Samuel and lived most of her life as a homemaker. She collected glassware, enjoyed reading and politics, and watching baseball. She was a member of Campbell Springs Church of Christ and the Clay County Historical Society. She is survived by two daughters: Sandra J. Thomas of Oxford and Donna Smith (Steve) of Ashland; one son, Bruce Bowden (Peggy) of Newell; her Grandchildren: Susan Thomas of Oxford, Beth Wilson (Robert) of Alpharetta, GA, Chris Smith, Brad Smith (Maggie) both of Ashland, and Bart Smith of Pell City; and 8 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harlan H. Hobbs and Myrtle Highsmith Hobbs; her husband, Samuel J. Bowden; one brother, Sonny Hobbs; one sister, Nelma Finch. The family would like to say a special thank you Mrs. Bowden’s caregivers: Julia McLain, Mary McClellan, Alice Watts, and Angie East and the Hospice of Clay County for the compassionate care given to our mother. Active Pallbearers will be Brad Smith, Bart Smith, Dawson Smith, Mason Smith, Mack Patterson, Norman McNatt, Phil Green, and John Harkness. A visitation will take place on Monday, September 13, 2021 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 9:30 A.M. until 10:30 A.M.
