George W. Swafford JR 84, of Murphysboro, Illinois, passed away at 2:27 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at Hillview Healthcare Center in Vienna, Illinois. George was born on July 21, 1937, in Murphysboro, Illinois to George Swafford SR and Edith (Grammer) George served in the United States Army. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Murphysboro, Illinois, the V.F.W Post #7190, American Legion Post 127, and the Moose Lodge. He married Dorothy (Newbol) Swafford in October 12, 1980 and she survives. other survivors include Ex wife Judith Ann Nance and their son Joe Swafford. Five children Gary (Cindy) Evans, Marsha (Weston) Clark, Sherri (Mike) Bundren, Scott Evans, and Richard “Brad” Evans. Eleven Grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Marie Farrell. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro with Pastor Johnathon Stevens officiating, and internment at Little Saline Cemetery in Stonefort, Illinois at 3 p.m. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
