Leon Paul Rackers

Leon Paul Rackers, 74, of Jefferson City, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at his home, with his loving family by his side. He was born on August 11, 1947, the ninth of ten children born to Clarence and Alma (Raithel) Rackers. Leon was united in marriage on October 8, 1994 to Linda (Dryer) Williams, who survives at the home. He was previously married to Patricia Nentwig and into this marriage, two children were born, Christy and Curtis. Leon was a 1965 graduate of Fatima High School and graduated in 1967 from the Midwest Automation Information Technology School in Kansas City. Leon served six years in the U.S. Reserves and four years in the Missouri National Guard. He worked in the IT Department at the Missouri Department of Mental Health from 1966 until his retirement in 2006. Leon was a faithful and gentle man. Leon was both his children’s and grandchildren’s biggest fan, and attended all of their school and sporting activities. He enjoyed traveling and wintering in Gulf Shores. He loved camping and cutting firewood, and took pride in taking care of his lawn. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, St. Martins Knights of Columbus and was a strong member of his community. He was proud of his family, and will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Leon is survived by his spouse of 26 years: Linda Rackers; daughter: Christy Hake (Brad); sons: Curtis Rackers (Holly), Troy Williams (Cassie) and Lance Williams (Maggie); grandchildren: Christian, Whitney and Abby Hake, Piper and Pierce Rackers, and MacKenzie and Hailee Williams; siblings: Del Prenger, Grace Blank (Roy), Glenn Rackers (Betty), Janet Kauffman and Carol Ricks; sisters-in-law: Jean Rackers, Ruth Coppenbarger (Kent) and Eva Wilson; brothers-in-law: Jerome Reinsch, Orville Stegeman and Harry Dryer (Bette) and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Norbert Rackers and Harold Rackers; sisters: Rose Reinsch and Linda Stegeman; and brothers-in-law: Leon Prenger, Ray Kauffman, Dale Ricks and R. J. Wilson. Friends will be received from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021 at St. Martins Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Jason Doke officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
