Stephen "Steve" L. Girt

Stephen L. Girt, 75, of Navarre, passed away on September 9, 2021 with his family by his side. He was born on July 23, 1946 to the late Jesse and Elma (Fichter) Girt. Steve proudly served his country in the National Guard. He was self-employed for most of his life and the owner of Girt Trucking. Steve was the definition of “hard-worker”. When he wasn’t working, you could find him on his Honda Gold Wing with his beloved wife, Susette riding on the back. They took many bike rides together, some to West Virginia and Pennsylvania, others to get ice cream or visit his favorite casinos. Steve was a pretty laid back guy and enjoyed the simple things in life, especially visiting his family or just sitting on the front porch soaking up the sun. He will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of 55 years, Susette (Stewart) Girt; and his loving son David Girt; sisters Barbara (Gilbert) Johnson and Shirley Sibila; sister-in-law Joan Girt; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his beloved son Mike Girt, his brother Gerald Girt and brother-in-law Donald Sibila. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 14th at 11 a.m. at East Union Lawn Cemetery in Navarre. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Aultman Compassionate Care Center, 2821 Woodlawn Ave NW, Canton, OH 44708.
