Elsie Q Foree Obituary

Elsie Quentilla  Foree, born In Ullin, Illinois on October 3, 1928,  peacefully passed away Thursday September 9, 2021 at Otterbein Senior Living Community in Lebanon, Ohio, at the age 92.  Elsie’s parent’s were the late Elize Peter and Gracie J. Greer of Ullin, Illinois.

Elsie was a graduate of Love Joy High School in Mounds Illinois and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale Illinois.    Elsie was a career school teacher in the Pulaski County, Illinois School District and retired after 26 years of service.  In 1964, she moved from Detroit Michigan, returning to Southern Illinois to care for her mother.  Elsie worked and was a devoted caregiver for her mother until her mother’s passing at the age of 112 years.  Elsie was a member of Faith Deliverance Church in Morrow, GA, and Bibleway Church of God and Christ in Pulaski, Illinois.  Elsie maintained a faith filled life.  An avid artist and painter, she enjoyed many art techniques and forms.  Elsie taught art and other classes at Meridian High School, and began her teaching career as a founding member and staff of the County Head Start Program.  

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings brothers Lester Greer, and Cornell Greer, sisters Alverna Nesbitt and Helen Greer (age 1 year), grandmother Tempi Mills; grandfather John Glass and numerous aunts, uncles, and other relatives.   

Elsie Foree is survived by her son Jesse Phillip Foree, Jr., of Atlanta Georgia, and Saidah Sheila Foree, of Cincinnati, Ohio.  Elsie has four grandchildren;  Kendrick Waldon of Augusta, GA, Michael Rochester of Cincinnati, Ohio, Emma Polk of Waco, TX, and Katrina Jones of Raleigh, NC.  Elsie loved and maintained a close relationship with her nieces;  Patricia Nesbitt, Phyllis Creggett, Connie Cross, of Detroit Michigan, Luvenia and David Henry of St. Louis Mo., Vickie and husband Wayne Vines of Chicago IL., Donald and Patricia Greer, Patricia (AC) Greer, JoAnn Greer, David (Kimberly) Greer, Holly Waldon and a host of great nephews, nieces.  Elsie’s closest friends beginning in elementary school until her death were Ethel Parker, and Vera Massie.  Ethel’s daughter Rhonda K. McWilliams and family remained supportive throughout Elsie’s life.  Other life-long friends include Charlie Mallory, Ullin IL, Holly Waldon, Joppa IL, and Sandy Crumble of Champaign IL.  

Services Elsie Foree will be held on Friday September 17, 2021 at Massie Funeral Home in Mounds, Illinois at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Valencia Clark, officiating. Visitation for Elsie Foree will be Friday at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Green Lawn Memorial Garden in Villa Ridge, Illinois.
