Obituary

James Corkill Talbert, aged 93, passed away on August 21, 2021 in Pahrump, Nevada following a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease, complicated by a Covid 19 infection.  Known to friends and family as Jim, Talbert was born in Topeka, Kansas on April 27, 1928.  He graduated high school at the age of 16 and received special permission to enlist in the army during World War II.  He served as an Army Medic and Dental Assistant during World War II in Italy, France, and Germany.  Jim was especially proud of his military service, wearing his World War II cap with great pride.

A passionate businessman, Jim owned businesses in Phoenix and Kingman, Arizona; Glendale, Utah (The Historic Smith Hotel); a Cessna area distributorship, two small seafood restaurants, and Jay's Furniture and Appliance in Las Vegas; San Diego (Direct Factory Carpet); and most recently, Denver, Colorado (Denver Floor Designs/Discount Carpet and Tile).  A successful salesman, he once won an all-expense paid, 30-day trip around the world for winning a Maytag sales contest, beating out over 100 others for the Grand Prize.  He was a member of the Rotary and an executive volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America.

Talbert is survived by his five children; Daughter Barbara Snow and husband Tom Snow of The Colony, Texas; Son Craig Talbert of Scottsdale, Arizona; Son Paul Talbert and wife Pamela Talbert of Phoenix, Arizona; and Son Mark Talbert and wife Linda Talbert of Greenwich, Connecticut.  Jim is also survived by stepdaughter Tammy Myers and husband Todd Myers of Las Vegas, Nevada. Jim leaves behind seven grandchildren; Alyssa Talbert (daughter of Paul), David Talbert (son of Mark), Jim Snow, Phillip Snow, and Sheri Snow (children of Barbara), Zachary Myers and Abigail Myers (children of Tammy); and three great grandchildren; Ariana Wernert, R.J. Wernert, and Cassia Wernert (children of Sheri), along with previous wives Elizabeth Nelson Talbert, and Michelle Talbert.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents Mary and George Talbert, brothers Warren, George, and Ed Talbert, and sisters Catherine Brown, Beatrice Larson, and Goldie Hubbard.

Talbert had lived in many places during his long life, but often recalled his time at the Smith Hotel with fondness.  A fixture on his street in Pahrump, he most recently enjoyed the celebration of his 93rd birthday when neighbors drove past honking and waving as he sat in his chair outside.
