Leta Walkemeyer Obituary

Leta Faye (Jackson) Walkemeyer was born on May 7, 1933. She passed from this life into the arms of her Loving Savior on September 3, 2021. Leta was born to Carrol and Lona Jackson in Cold Springs, Oklahoma, the youngest of ten children. Early childhood chores included picking cotton on the family farm. At Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, Leta met Roy Walkemeyer from Hugoton, Kansas. They were married on January 23, 1954, and began farming in southwest Kansas. They lived near or in Hugoton, Kansas, until 2013 when they moved to California to be near family. Leta taught elementary school until her children were born. Leta and Roy adopted their son, Kent, in 1964. Their daughter, Sheri, was born in 1965. Leta's greatest joys included serving the farm life, her family, her church, and her community. Her faith in Jesus Christ was central to everything in her life, and she exuded joy and devotion to Christ that shaped every relationship. For many decades, Leta was a spiritual leader and humble servant to her church, Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton. Her greatest service was prayer. Leta and Roy celebrated 67 years of marriage in January, 2021. She is survived by her husband; Roy, her children; Kent and Sheri, her three grandchildren; Kyle, Kayla, and Haylie, her brother; William, her sister; Maxine, and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and dearly loved friends. Memorial services will be held at East Whittier Friends Church, Whittier, California, on September 13 at 6:00 p.m., and Bethel Friends Church, Hugoton, Kansas, on September 18 at 2:00 p.m.
