Charles Woodrow Pruitt Obituary

Charles Woodrow (Woody) Pruitt, 78, of Hewitt, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, September 2, 2021. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 pm on Thursday, September 9, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service will be held at Waco Memorial Park on Friday, September 10, at 10 am, with Pastor John Collier officiating. Woody was born August 3, 1943, in Beebe, Arkansas, the son of Clarence Woodrow Pruitt and Lillie Belle (Patterson) Stringfellow. He graduated from Southwestern High School in 1960, where he was an exemplary student. After high school, he married the love of his life Janice (Roye) Pruitt and began their family and his career in the retail business. He worked for Gibson’s Discount Center for over twenty years, where he managed several stores and headed up their advertising department. After leaving Gibson’s, he served as a store manager for various automotive stores. His strong people skills and business sense led him to great success in the retail business. He adored spending time with his family during the holidays. He had a great love of Southern gospel music. He was an avid University of Texas Longhorns fan and often stated that he “bled orange.” He was also a big Dallas Cowboys fan, especially during the team’s early years. He loved spending Sundays going to church and watching NASCAR. He had a great appreciation for classic cars. He also loved to read and was a bit of a “history buff.” Most of all, he was a Christian man and lived his life accordingly, trying to set good examples for others to follow. Woody was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Pruitt. Woody is survived by his wife of sixty years, Janice Pruitt; son, Tony, and wife, Kerri, of Waco; son, Chris, and wife, Christina, of Hewitt; son, Todd, and wife, Lauren, of Woodway; grandchildren, Colton, Cody, Kyler, Caleb, Ainsley, Tyler, Bryahna, and Payton, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends. His pallbearers will be grandchildren Colton, Cody, Kyler, Caleb, and Tyler, and nephew, Steve Roye. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of caregivers from Bluebonnet Health Services and Hospice. We are extremely grateful for the care, compassion, and kindness you provided for Woody and our family during this difficult time.
