Lester "Jim" James Heaton

Jim Heaton, 95, of Dixon, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Rock River Hospice & Home in Sterling, IL. He worked as a cement truck driver for many companies throughout his career including Rock River Ready Mix; then onto Lincoln Way Materials for 20 years prior to his retirement. Jim was born July 1, 1926, in Dixon, IL, the son of Leslie and Myrtle (Fisher) Heaton. He married Janice Kay Johnson on October 9, 1967, in Las Vegas, NV. She preceded him in death on December 27, 2015. Jim was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #12 in Dixon and also a member of the Teamsters Local Union #722. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1956. Jim was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and playing his favorite slot machine while drinking an Old Milwaukee. He is survived by his, son, James Heaton; many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter Julia Mae Heaton; four siblings, Hazel Ellen Dalke-Miller, Frank Heaton, Glenn Arthur Heaton, and Lloyd Edward Heaton. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at the Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Ltd. in Dixon, IL. Funeral Service will be 10:00 am, Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Ltd. in Dixon, IL, with the Pastor Jack Briggs, officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon, IL. Memorials may be directed to Rock River Hospice and Home. Arrangements were completed by Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.
