James Corbett Montgomery, beloved husband of Margaret (2014), peacefully at Shelburne Residence Retirement surrounded by loving family on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at the age of 94. Predeceased by parents Mary Louise Corbett and Glenn Gilchrist Montgomery and sister Helen McDonald (2019). Loving father of Andrea Montgomery Spring (Paul) Fort McMurray, Ellen Montgomery-Smith (Dave) Shelburne, David Montgomery (Kelly) Shelburne, Brian Montgomery (Melodie) Mulmur, Craig Montgomery (Josie) Brampton and Dr. Alison Montgomery Burlington. Proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren Cameron (Kelsey Munn) Fort McMurray, Dr. Kirby (Ben Steele) Edmonton, Lauren Smith (Stuart Kent) Rome,Italy, Samuel Smith (Rachel) Georgetown, Whitney Hofmann (Michael) Shelburne, Curtis Montgomery (Morgan Ford) Waterloo, Tyson Montgomery (Brittany) Shelburne, Dr. Elisha Montgomery (Dr. Michael) Melbourne, Florida, Dr. Miles Montgomery (Lian) Newmarket, Paige Bielecki (Stephan) Halifax, Alec Montgomery, Brampton, Wesley Montgomery (Chantelle) Freelton, Oliver Montgomery Brampton, Mason Eggers Burlington, Chloe Eggers Burlington and 7 great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours. James was a steward of the land and of his family. He was a hardworking and successful farmer. He farmed first with his father Glenn on the Backline near Dundalk and then north of Shelburne for nearly 70 years. He was an exemplary man in every way. He was a lifelong member of Trinity United Church, where he served as an elder and Sunday School superintendent, past president of the Rotary Club of Shelburne where he was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow, past president of the Shelburne Agriculture Society, member of the Niagara Escarpment Commission, past Deputy Reeve of Melancthon Township and member of the Masonic Lodge. Above all, Jim was our cherished leader, a humble, loyal, principled man who led his family by example with quiet dignity and humour. We were a lucky family to have had him for so long. His character will live on in our hearts and his descendants, which is all he ever wanted. The family wishes to thank the staff of Shelburne Residence Community where he lived contentedly for 6 years, Dr. Marina Mauro, Dr Amy Catania, Janice Stringer of the Central West LHIN, affiliates of Closing the Gap, St Elizabeth Nurses, Dufferin County Paramedic Services. Arrangements entrusted to Jack and Thompson Funeral Home. A private family service will be held Friday August 27th, 2021. Interment at Shelburne Cemetery. If desired, donations can be made to Canadian Food Grains Bank , Canadian Diabetes Association, Parkinson Canada or a charity of your choice.
