<p>Dena D. Batzer 76, of Groton, New York passed away on August 20, 2021 at her home. </p><p>Born October 20, 1944 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late LaRue and Marcella Shadduck Snell. </p><p>Having lived in the Groton area most of her life she had worked at various places such as XCP, Viking Lanes, Smith Corona, The Corona Club, and finally retiring from Groton Central School in 2011. </p><p>Dena was always your go to person who would offer sound advice, a listening ear, a friendly smile and a tender hug. She was considered by many to be their second Mom/Grandma. She was known to be a hard worker, enjoyed knitting, a member of the Groton Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Carrington Fuller Post 800 American Legion Auxiliary, an avid bowler and a reliable babysitter, taking in many children over the years. Groton was very fortunate to have Dena’s family share her with the community.</p><p>She is survived by her husband, Robert, of 54 years, her children Richard (Laura) Cunningham of Sanford, Florida, Michael (Ellen) Batzer of Homer, New York, Scott (Bonnie) Batzer of Salisbury, Maryland, Donna (Raymond) Griffin of Summerhill, Kim Batzer and Bobbie Jean (BJ) Batzer of Groton. Leaves behind 25 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, Tanya (Austin), Dustin (Jordan), Emily, Troy, Owen, Lacy, Josh, Justin, Cole, Brenna, Lilianna, Georgia, Sierra (Marissa, Kyree), Samantha (Kacee, Marley), Alison (Brooklyn, Kayden), Connor, Kody, Dana, Joanne (Dante), Robert, Tommy, Joey, Ashley (Collin, Landon, Zachary) as well as her sister, Connie (Bob) Vormwald, of Tully, New York. She is also survived by in-laws Kim Snell, Bruce Sherwood, Wayne Sheeder, Charlotte Snell, Mary Ann (Ed) Smith, Veronica (Pete) Nelli, Walker Ripley and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. </p><p>In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her stepfather, Fred Coon, two granddaughters, Sara and Lisa Cunningham, and her siblings Earl and Donald Snell, Joann Cunningham, Sandra Sherwood, Donna Sheeder and Sister-in-law, Susie Ripley.</p><p>The family will receive friends at Zirbel Funeral Home, 115 William St., Groton on Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 11:00 to 12:30 pm followed by a Graveside service at the Groton Rural Cemetery, and then family and friends are invited to the Groton Rod and Gun Club immediately following for food and a celebration of memories. </p><p>Memories can be shared on her guestbook at www.zirbelfuneralhome.com</p>

Dena D. Batzer 76, of Groton, New York passed away on August 20, 2021 at her home.
