Joanne Elizabeth Fussell
<p>Mrs. Joanne Green Fussell, age 77, passed away on August 8, 2021, at UF Health Shands in Gainesville. Joanne was born and raised in Brooker, FL. For 33 years she was an instrumental part of the Brooker Elementary School. She served as secretary, nurse, guidance counselor, surrogate parent or wherever she was needed. Joanne had a heart for people. She loved visiting people and having them visit her. Joanne owned a cabin in Topton, NC and would invite people to stay and relax in the mountains with her. She was a faithful member of New River Baptist and loved her church family. She also served on the board of New River Baptist Church Cemetery for many years. Joanne also enjoyed reading (especially her Bible), yard work, and spending as much time as she could with her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Russell Green, Jr. and Lucille Thomas Green; her husband of 46 years, Asa David Fussell; her son, David Thomas Fussell; her siblings, Harvey Green, Beverly Welch and Mary Mayben.</p> <p>Joanne is survived by her daughters, Sharon Fussell-Carter of Brooker, FL and Carol Preston of Andrews, NC; her grandchildren, Stephen (Megan) Powell of Texas, Laura (Anthony) Brothers of Alabama, Scott (Ciera) Powell of Kentucky, William Casey Carter of Brooker, FL, Noah Preston, Leah Preston, and Samuel Preston all of Andrews, NC; 7 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.</p> <p>A funeral service for Joanne will be held on at her church New River Baptist in Brooker, FL on Saturday, August 14th at 11:00am. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6:30pm to 8:00pm on Friday, August 13th at Archer-Milton Funeral Home in Lake Butler, FL. Joanne will be laid to rest next to her husband at New River Baptist Church Cemetery immediately following the funeral. Her grandson, Stephen Powell, will officiate the service.
