Brenda Iona Bates Stellarton, Nova Scotia Obituary

Brenda Iona Bates

Brenda Iona Mary Wilson-Bates, of Stellarton, passed away in the early morning on July 31st, 2021, in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Born in New Glasgow on February 9, 1954, she was the daughter of James (deceased) and Edna Wilson. Brenda will be deeply missed by her loving husband Martin, daughters Colleen and Kathleen (Jaclyn), her siblings Darlene McDowell (Michael), Darryl Wilson (Connie), and large extended family. After graduating New Glasgow High School and St. FX University, she was primarily a stay-at-home mom, though also occasionally working part-time for Sobeys. Brenda enjoyed a rich social life as a member of the Kinette and K-ette Clubs of New Glasgow. She loved music and attending concerts featuring artists from around the world. When she wasn’t exploring the Atlantic coastline, she was almost certainly enjoying a good book. Those that had the pleasure of knowing her could always take comfort in her unique ability to listen without passing judgement, and her down-to-earth advice that remedied any situation. The cremation has taken place, and a private reception will be held with immediate family only, due to Covid restrictions. The family would like to thank the staff of the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit and the Pictou County VON for their ongoing compassion and professionalism while Brenda was under their care. Donations in Brenda’s memory may be made to the following charities: Hope for Wildlife, the Stellarton Public Library, or the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
