George W. Becker Obituary

George William Becker of Wurtsboro, a retired bus driver for the MTA in New York City, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2021 at the Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown. He was 71. The son of the late Henry G. Becker and Theresa Lutz Becker, he was born August 21, 1949 in Brooklyn. A veteran of the United States Army, George served his country in Viet Nam. He served as Quartermaster for The Edward M. Meier VFW Post 4947. He was also a member of The Freeport Hudson Anglers Fishing Club and was an avid life-long fisherman. He loved fishing with his daughters and his brothers and many others. He is survived by his wife: Carmen Alejandro Becker, at home; two daughters: Cathleen Hock (Ed) of Queens, and Jennifer Watkins (Chris) of Queens; two stepdaughters: Janette Torres of Hurleyville and Wanda Torres of Manhattan; seven grandchildren: John, Erin, Jennifer, Desiree, Destinee, Madison and Liam; four great grandchildren: Christopher, Alaina, Ava and Kai; a brother: Henry Becker and his Wife Rhonda of Schenectady; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, including Richard and Phillis Becker of Mohawk. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Edward Becker and a sister, Linda Bartlett. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff in the ER and ICU at Garnet Medical Center for their amazing efforts to help George through his medical challenges. Their gentle care and kindness toward George and our family was greatly appreciated and did not go unnoticed. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 5 from 3:00 to 6:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with a funeral service starting at approx. 5pm, followed by a Military Honor Service.
