Charles Gordon Rummel Obituary

Charles Gordon Rummel, 83, passed away July 24, 2021 at home surrounded by his family. Charles was born February 17, 1938 in Mankato, Minnesota. He lived his primary years in Mankato and Storden areas of Minnesota. His family moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota when he was entering Junior High. He graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota Class of 1957. After graduation he served our county through service in the Naval Reserves and in the United States Air Force. He served as a Dental Lab Technician, stationed at Toule AFB, France and Hahn AFB, Germany. After his military service he attended the University of Minnesota obtaining his BA of Fine Arts. He continued his career as a Certified Dental Lab Technician in Minnesota, Idaho, Ohio and Arizona. He loved to paint in both oil and watercolors along with creating and designing Stained Glass. He also enjoyed hiking, camping and backpacking. He had a love for backpacking in the Grand Canyon, logging over 1,000 miles of “below the rim backpacking” in the Canyon. He fulfilled his “bucket list” of a 2 week rafting the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Leo and Crystal May (Engel) Rummel (Biological parents: Sylvester Karl and Bernice (Engel, Karl, Grundmeyer), as well as a brother and sister-in-law, Gary (Jane) Grundmeyer in 2015 (2019). Charles is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy (Sneary) Rummel, children: Sharon (Ryan) Close, Katherine Rummel, Brian Rummel, grandsons: Justin Close and Kyler Close; brother, Dale (Evie) Grundmeyer; sisters: Dianne (Tom) Engel, Sandy (“Red”) Zarn, Linda Glenn, Judy (Gary) Haala, Susan Karl and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life for Charles will be held for family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations the family requests you perform a “Random Act of Kindness”.
