Obituary

John Anthony Quartarone (October 31, 1951 to July 18, 2021)

John Anthony Quartarone, a loving husband and father, passed away too early for those left behind and now rests in the peaceful embrace of God.

Born to Anthony Charles Quartarone and Agnes Santos Quartarone on October 31, 1951, in Everett, Massachusetts, John was the elder brother of three sisters:  Doreen Hotchkiss, Karen Quartarone and Lisa Constantino. He grew up in East Boston and became the first member of his family to matriculate to college. Unlike many others, John did not use college to escape military service, but as an opportunity to serve by attending the United States Military Academy. John graduated from West Point in the Class of 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Upon graduation, he became a commissioned officer in the United States Army, serving for five years as a member of the 82d Airborne and the US Army Rangers. He left the Army as a captain. John leaves behind his beloved bride Susan Quartarone.  Susan and John arrived later in each other’s lives, marrying little over a year ago on December 28, 2019. But Susan made John happier than ever before, and excited to spend the rest of his days with her. He felt blessed to have her and hoped to make her as happy as she made him.

John also leaves behind his children, Amy Archer and Michael Quartarone, and four grandchildren, Brendan, McKenna, Cameron and Caroline and 3 step grandchildren, Ethan, Alicia and Lyla. John often said that the one job he always wanted was that of dad, and he was in fact an active and supportive father.  But the job of grandfather was his greatest joy, and he excelled at it. John was ever present in his grandchildren’s lives, never missed their milestones, and laughed at misdeeds it was not his responsibility to correct.  John was a giant in his grandchildren’s lives who can never be replaced.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate John’s life this Sunday, July 25, 2021, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, at Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave., Ramsey, NJ 07446. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 26, 2021, at 10:00 am, at the Church of the Presentation, 271 West Saddle River, NJ 07458. John will be laid to rest on a later date at West Point Cemetery, West Point, NY.
