Mr. Wayne Silcox of the Difficult Community was pronounced deceased at the Riverview Regional Medical Center in Carthage at 10:48 p.m. Wednesday evening July 21, 2021 after arrival at 8:46 p.m. with C.P.R. in progress. The call for assistance came to Smith County 911 at 7:51 p.m. The caller stated he had collapsed while mowing his yard at his Dog Branch South home. Mr. Silcox was 49. Funeral services from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home were conducted by Eld. Witt Cook assisted by Timothy Dixon. Following the 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon July 24th services burial was near his parents in section five at the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens. Born in Carthage on December 16, 1971, he was the only child of Patricia Fay Burton who died at the age of 57 on May 17, 2010 and Claude Allen Armistead who died at the age of 58 on December 29, 2010. At the Smith County Courthouse on November 4, 1994 he was united in marriage to Difficult Community native, the former Bridget Elaine Dixon. Mr. Silcox had been employed by the Dana Corporation in Gordonsville as a welder for twenty one years. He was saved at the former Carthage Emmanuel Church of Christ in 1980, was baptized and was of the Pentecostal belief. Surviving in addition to his wife of almost twenty seven years are their two children, their son, Dustin Wayne Silcox and wife Brittany Lynch Silcox of Chestnut Mound, their daughter, Bailey Elaine Silcox Davis and husband Dakota of the McClures Bend Community; two granddaughters, Hazel Grace Davis and Willow Fay Davis; aunt and uncle, Nancy Burton Boyd and husband Billy of Buffalo Valley and their daughter Gail Boyd Grigg.
