Harper David Lohr, 92, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2021 in Louisville.

He was born on May 13, 1929 in East Orange, New Jersey to Freeman and Isabelle (Utman) Lohr. He graduated from Mt. Hermon School in Gill, MA in 1947, and attended Colby College in Waterville, ME before graduating with a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Kentucky in 1958.

During the Korean War, Harper served as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne in Fort Campbell, KY. It was there that he met his first wife and mother of his two sons, Mary Yarbrough Lohr.

He retired from IBM in Lexington, KY after 25 years as a manufacturing engineer. Prior to that, he worked at Texas Instruments in Versailles.

He was a former member of Midway Christian Church, Versailles Christian Church, and is presently a member of Hurstbourne Christian Church where he enjoyed singing in the choirs. He was proud to be a Mason for over 50 years and always wore his Masonic ring.

Harper was an avid UK sports fan, passionate gardener, loved listening to classical music, and was never without a book in his hand or on a nearby table.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Freeman; his sister, Phyllis; and his first wife, Mary.

He is survived by his much beloved and loving wife, Yvonne Jacobs Lohr; his sons, Dr. Raymond Lohr (Vicki) of Shelbyville, and Dr. W. David Lohr (Anne) of Louisville; his stepsons, David Shuck (Debbie) and Dan Shuck (Cindy) of Louisville; and a brother, Stuart Lohr (Kathy) of Ft Myers, FL. Harper and Yvonne shared numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 25th, 2:00 - 6:00 pm, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Louisville, KY. His funeral service will be Monday, July 26th, 1:00 pm, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hurstbourne Christian Church.

Mr. Lohr’s family would also like to express their gratitude to the staff of Baptist East Hospital for their exemplary care.
