Obituary

Daniel L. Mitchell, age 47, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at his home in Bear, Delaware. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, Dan… as he was known to all who loved him… was the son of Claude K. Mitchell Sr. and the late Barbara C. Mitchell. Dan was a graduate of Hodgson Vocational Technical High School, PencoTech, and various other schools of Marine Mechanics which was his gift.

Dan worked as a mechanic for Bob’s Marine, Delaware City Marina, and several other Marine Maintenance Shops, most recently at Carlisle Marine in Smyrna, Delaware.

Dan was baptized at Newark United Methodist Church, where he took confirmation in his mid-teens. Dan was a Life Scout in the Boy Scouts of America and was a great example to several of his nephews who followed in his footsteps.

Friends and family will always remember Dan for the size of his heart. He was always willing to lend a hand in any task and often gave his expertise in boat mechanics to complete strangers whom he encountered having trouble. He just couldn’t pass by a soul in need. When asked about payment more often than not, he wouldn’t accept it, only replying, “Just pass it on brother.” Dan loved water sports of all kind; motor boating, fishing, crabbing, etc; anything to be out on the water. He also loved Four Wheelers and ATVs.

Dan is survived by his father Claude K. Mitchell Sr., brothers: Claude Jr., Michael, Martin and Shawn, five nephews: Ryan, Christopher, Benjamin, Claude 3 and Morgan, a beloved aunt, Elizabeth (Ward) Gellens, an uncle, Frank Mitchell, sister-in-law, Jacqualynn, many cousins, second cousins, more friends, coworkers, and customers who thought the world of him than can possibly be listed.  Dan is predeceased by his grandparents Felix and Helena Mitchell and Salvatore Rampolla and Carol Ward, (and one adopted grandfather Frank Stogdon) his uncles: John Mitchell, Steve Osbourne and Tony Ward, aunts: Bertie Carrow, Kay Parsons and Ann Pedrick, and his cousin Allen Gellens. Also, by his two American Pit Bulls, Taz and Precious, whom he loved most dearly.

Family and friends may visit from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway Newark, DE 19702 where a service will begin at 12:30.  Burial will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
