Shirley Mae Foreman Obituary

Shirley Mae Foreman (Emberson) of Joplin, MO passed away Monday, July 19, 2021.

Shirley was born April 18, 1942 in Wichita Falls, TX to Grady Earl and Nannie Melissa (Satterfield) Emberson. She was a graduate of Wichita Falls High School. At the church where her father pastored, she met the love of her life, Curtis “Kurt” Foreman. They were married on May 13, 1962 and spent 59 wonderful years together. They were blessed with two children, Pam and Steve.

Shirley was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church. She did civil service work, and after 36 years of employment, retired from the social security office in Joplin. One of her proudest work accomplishments was that she retired seven times. She went on to work in various capacities from church secretary to unit secretary at Freeman Hospital. She spent her spare time exploring new hobbies with Pam. They enjoyed crafting and cooking together, which led to Shirley’s love of card and candy making. She was known for her homemade toffee, and if you were lucky, you made her “toffee list” that she fulfilled every holiday season. She also loved working in the yard and growing vegetables.

Shirley was preceded in death by both parents and her older sister, Betty Louise Carroll.

Survivors include her husband, Curtis “Kurt” Foreman of Joplin; daughter Pam White and husband Chris of Joplin; son Steve Foreman of Springfield; son Tom Monolidis of Springfield; granddaughter, Lauren Edwards and husband Chris of Republic; granddaughter Allison White of Joplin and great-grandson Milo Edwards of Republic.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary. A graveside service will be held at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery at 2:00 on Friday, July 23, 2021. The family would like to invite friends to join a procession to the graveside service, leaving Mason-Woodard Mortuary at 1:30pm.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Joplin Humane Society in her honor.
