Sara Frances Purdy Dixon Morton, 76, of Aberdeen, MD, died July 19, 2021 with her family in Damascus, MD. Ms. Morton was born August 8, 1944 in Coraopolis, PA to Alvin Paul and Myrtle Purdy. Sara grew up in Coraopolis where she graduated from high school. She attended Slippery Rock University before moving to Maryland, where she attended Towson University and received a master’s degree in Early Childhood Development. She taught for many years at Homestead Wakefield Elementary School and continued to serve local families as an in-home daycare provider, tutor, and school aide. Sara was an active church member of St. John's Episcopal, St. George's Episcopal, and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Harford County. She was a long-time member of several women's groups, including the American Association of University Women (AAUW). Sara is survived by her son David and his wife Kasey, her daughter Betsy and her husband Shawn, her stepdaughter Teresa, and her grandchildren Collin, Trevor, Justin, Emmy, Molly, and Lana. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and many, many friends. She is preceded in death by her brother Glenn Purdy and her husbands, Bob Dixon and Richard Morton. The family is especially grateful for the services of the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center and JSSA Hospice of Montgomery County.
