Juan Florencio Garcia, age 75, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 12, 2021 at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas surrounded by his loving family. Juan was born on October 24, 1945 in Edinburg, Texas, to parents, Florencio and Dominga Garcia. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Odilia Garcia of 52 years and a loving father to his children and grandchildren. Aside from his family, Juan’s greatest devotion and honor was his service to his country in the United States Army. He served 21 years from 1964 – 1985, participating in the Vietnam War, two tours of duty in Korea, and attained the rank of Master Sargent upon his retirement. He was the recipient of various military service awards and medals and was a proud Mason at West Point Masonic Lodge in New York. He also served and retired from Civil Service, post military retirement, working with the Department of Defense in Fort Worth for 19 years. Juan received his education from St. Phillip’s College in San Antonio and earned two Associates degrees. Juan was always an early riser and had a “seize the day” mentality. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He enjoyed spending time at his ranch in Seguin, Texas and always looked forward to hunting season and the preparation involved in it. He was an avid collector of guns and rifles and enjoyed sharing stories behind each one of them. He was an amazing boxer in his youth with an incredible left hand and fought hard every day for those he loved. He was a true provider and soldier in every sense of the word. He was preceded in death by his parents Florencio and Dominga Garcia and his brother Alvino Garcia. Juan is survived by his wife, Odilia Garcia; daughter, Odilia M. Garcia; son, Agustin James Garcia; grandchildren, Brittany M. Funk, Zachary B. Funk, Marshall J. Garcia and brother, Alfonso Garcia. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at Porter Loring Mortuary. SERVICE THURSDAY, JULY 29, 2021 9:30 A.M. PORTER LORING NORTH CHAPEL Deacon Gabe Becerra will officiate. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
