Matthew Austin Cowart 43, passed away on the 5th of July 2021.

Matthew was born April 24th 1978 in Savannah Georgia to Robert Welton Cowart and Veronica Mary Rose.

Matthew was born and raised in Savannah Georgia.  His earliest years were spent running and playing with his brothers and sisters around his childhood home on Garrard Ave in Savannah GA.  Like his brothers before him he played little league baseball and pitched a no hitter when he was 11 or 12.  He was passionate about the outdoors and scouting.  He achieved the rank of Eagle scout and was tapped into the Order of the Arrow in the Boy Scouts of America.  He traveled to Washington DC for the 1992 Ft. AP Hill Virginia National Scout Jamboree.  He loved camping, hiking and the outdoors.  He had a passion for singing opera.  He sang with a regional choir at the Orlando Temple Dedication in 94’ and in road shows for the Savannah Georgia Stake Choir throughout his teenage years.  Matthew was very patriotic and loved to sing impromptu versions of the National Anthem or anything else that popped in his mind.  He loved his Scottish heritage and speaking with a Scottish accent.  He participated and won ribbons in the caber toss competitions during the annual Savannah Scottish Games.  He loved playing tennis, swimming, kayaking, roller blading, racquetball, ping pong, and many other sports.  He loved science and inventing.  He won his 8th grade school science fair.  He spent two years in Australia, serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Sydney Australia Mission and was a lifelong member of the Church. He returned home with a thick Australian accent and a digeridoo that remained with him until the end.  Matt spent time in, or lived in Georgia, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Arizona, Idaho, and Hawaii.

He is survived by his sons Gabriel Cowart, Gavin Cowart, and his daughter Mariah Cowart of Utah. His Father Robert Cowart of Georgia, his sisters Jennifer Cowart of Georgia, Alison Schmid of Arizona, and Heather Cowart of Utah.  His brothers Steven Cowart of Georgia, Michael Cowart of Georgia, David Cowart of Florida, Philip Cowart of Indiana, and Benjamin Cowart of Florida.  He is proceeded in death by his mother Veronica Cowart.
