<p>David H. Laabs, age 86 of Belle Plaine, passed away on July 7, 2021, at Oak Terrace in Jordan. A visitation will be from 4-7P.M. on Sunday, July 11 at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine. A memorial service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine at 11A.M. on Monday, July 12 with visitation one hour prior to the service. Graveside service with military honors will follow the memorial service at Oakwood Cemetery in Belle Plaine.</p> <p> </p> <p>David was born in Belle Plaine on August 19, 1934, to Arthur and Mabel (Schmidt) Laabs. He grew up in Belle Plaine and graduated from Belle Plaine High School. Following graduation, he served in the US Navy, stationed in California. On September 11, 1954, he married Shirley Stier at St. John Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine. They owned Laabs OK Hardware and C & M Construction in Belle Plaine. David worked in masonry and construction for many years as well as farmed the family farm with his son Mark. He spent winters in Arizona with Shirley for many years. They enjoyed many travels together. David enjoyed time with his family, fishing, playing cards and bowling. He served many years on the Belle Plaine Fire Department and was a member of the local VFW. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, daughter Cindy and brother Roger.</p> <p> </p> <p>David is survived by his children, Ann (Harry) Thiewes of Lakeville, Kristi (Les) Zellmann of St. James and Mark Laabs of Belle Plaine. </p> <p> </p> <p>Grandchildren, Micah Stradcutter, Emily Olson, Jen (Nate) Zinnel, Ben (Kerri) Zellmann, Josh Denzer, Laura (Jared) Suel, Stephanie Denzer (Chris Comstock). </p> <p> </p> <p>Great-Grandchildren, Sienna Olson, Lauren Olson, Annika Zinnel, Max Zellmann, Noah Morgan, Daniel Suel and Logan Suel.</p> <p> </p> <p>Son in law, Jim Solheid,</p> <p> </p> <p>Sister, Ruth Andersen and sister-in-law Marilyn Laabs, and many nieces and nephews.</p>August 19, 1934 - July 7, 202108/19/193407/07/2021
