Memorial service for Dennis Steward will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, June 2, 2017 at Walker Funeral Home with Erik Bergquist officiating. Dennis Duane Steward 74, passed away peacefully at his home on May 22, 2017 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Parker, South Dakota on February 2, 1943 to Dreldon and Mildred (Berthelsen) Steward. Dennis attended school in Parker, SD. He then went on to graduate from General Beadle State College in Madison, SD with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Education. Furthering his education, Dennis received a Master's in Natural Science from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. He taught high school for 13 years, 10 of which he was a football coach at Salem, SD. Dennis married Vicky Casey and to this union a son, Sean Patrick was born in 1980 in Houston, TX. In 1982, Dennis moved to Gillette, WY and began working for Smith Tool in Sales and distribution of oil and exploration tools. He worked on offshore oil rigs for two years off the west coast of Africa. Dennis married Tamara Coulson and a daughter was born in 1988. Dennis continued to work in Gillette during the decline of oil drilling an onset of Coal Bed Methane. He worked for Yates Petroleum as a methane consultant until his declining health forced him into retirement. Dennis enjoyed many hobbies including; hunting, fishing, large oil field gatherings and friends. He was a long time football fan of the 49ers, he also enjoyed NASCAR and his recent past time was watching the Colorado Rockies. His most enjoyable past time was with his grandson Killian and longtime pet pit bull. Dennis is survived by his wife of 30 years, son Sean of Parker, SD, daughter Shannon Nelson of Gillette, WY and grandson Killian Steward.
